Faculty of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering
The faculty began as two departments, the Department of Radio Electronic Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering, both founded in 1949 within the newly established University under the leadership of Prof Dexian Bi, an internationally recognized expert in electronic and communication engineering and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 1952,in accordance with national university development policy, the Department of Radio Electronic Engineering became part of the Institute of Communications Engineering of the People's Liberation Army, while the Department of Electrical Engineering was integrated into Northeastern University of Technology. The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Electronics was founded in 1956, and the initiative for industrial electrification was founded by Prof Zhongtuo Wang, a renowned academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The Department of Radio Engineering was re-established in 1960 and renamed Department of Electronic Engineering in 1980. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was founded in1981, the Department of Automation in 1994. In 1997, the School of Electronics and Information Engineering was established, consisting of the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Automation. The Department of Electromagnetic Engineering was founded in 1991 and renamed Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2000. The Department of Biomedical Engineering was founded in 2007. The School of Electronics and Information Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering were integrated into the Faculty of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering on December 12, 2009.
The Faculty now consists of five Schools and one Department and offers demanding BS, MS, PhD, and Post-doctoral programs. It has 5 post-doctoral research centers and offers 6 first grade discipline and 18 second grade discipline doctorate programs as well as 18 master's programs. The Faculty's facilities include an engineering research center for energy-saving control technology of industrial equipment under the auspices of the National Ministry of Education, provincial key laboratory for advanced control systems of industrial equipment, provincial key laboratory for digital media processing and transmission, a National Experimental Center for electrical and electronic engineering technology, a provincial experimental center for information technology, and an experimental center for teaching computing science. The Faculty's programs are fully accredited and its academic staff with a balanced age structure has shown itself to be fully competitive. Of the Faculty's current academic staff of 280, including 76 professors and 93 associate professors, 68 are supervising PhD candidates.
